Karate can kill

This is something interesting that makes the point of "original intent" in karate:  It was meant to be a deadly and violent form of unarmed self-defense against an untrained and villainous opponent or opponents, not a sport or a form of physical fitness.

  1. Nice read as the Isshin Ryu input the thumb strike is something learned in the 15 basic upper body moves- #14. I’ll have to dig through some old paper work and find some more info on it. The 15 upper and lower body basic were used more or less like the taikyoku ichi-San and Juniwaza/sanjuko as a means to teach karate ka how to utilize their weapons (empty hand/ karate) .

  2. Thanks for the comment and email Tim. If you don't mind, I would like to transcribe the one regarding motivation, etc. and include it here. Learning and practice must take place outside the dojo!
